Sharjah Ruler attends UoS Alumni Association ceremony

His Highness said that these methods should be a means to communicate with the prestigious universities in scientific research to help us follow the right path, adding when Europe wanted to achieve progress and emerge from the darkness, it  sought the help of the  Arabs and Muslims. When reading that history about that era, we feel proud that we have roots, and that we have belonging to Islam, the instrument of enlightenment that led Europe out of darkness.

Sheikh Sultan made these remarks while attending the UoS Alumni Association’s annual ceremony, held at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre on Wednesday
His Highness added that universities are a world that is engaged in development and research and that he had been to several world prestigious universities from which he learnt and at which he participated in decision-making, saying that the University of Sharjah is the result of those ideas, so it must have its due position in the heart.

His Highness said that UoS is among the universities which attempt to be in the forefront, and that the right means to develop it should be provided. He went on to say that UoS graduates have proved to be highly qualified in their endeavours in the work market and this reflects positively on the position of their university. He further said that since universities’ progress is measured by scientific research, we have developed our students but lingered behind in the field of scientific research.

Having been able to graduate 23 thousand students, I believe it is more worthy that it graduates scientists and researchers, and it has the potential to do so. However, the university needs a plan to produce scientists and useful scientific researches. To achieve this goal, we have appointed vice chancellors to see to it that the administration is enhanced to save it the burdens of perplexity. Generating financial resources to be spent on scientific research are also an immensely important step as scientific research requires large financial resources. For this purpose, we have issued a decision of collecting the Knowledge dirham from all administrative operations of government departments, His Highness explained.

He added that human cadres should augment this step, so we have to select those who can do this work as administering scientific research is represented in labs and scientific capabilities. For this to be possible, we have to commence establishing the buildings and universities as well as laboratories.

We should hone UoS qualified graduates’ skills. This can be achieved through observing and following up students from the very first year of university study, motivate and encourage them and instill in them the importance of scientific research.

He said that the UoS financial problem has been solved. Labs will be replaced; required cadres can be attracted from all over the world. We know people’s needs and those of the country’s.

His Highness also pointed out to gap between basic education and university study, a problem that is common in all universities. He attributed this gap to education official urging them to fill it. “We hope that the education officials take into account this issue as education is not merely wiping out illiteracy, it is rather building man who can cope up with the age, research, learn and progress to come out with an output that benefits society”, His Highness expounded.

He wished progress and good luck for secondary certificate graduates and welcomed them to UoS.

Professor Hamid Majol Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the UoS also delivered a speech in which he thanked Sheikh Sultan for his patronage of the ceremony and support to the institution and highlighted the role of graduates in society.

Then, His Highness launched the  UoS Alumni Association’s new logo which represents its identity, objectives and vision before he inaugurated the e-services portal and the Association’s smart application which aims to bring students closer to it and provides them with several services including the logistics, activities, promotions and others.

His Highness then honoured the patrons of UoS Alumni Association’s ceremony and received a present from the chairman of the Association recognising His Highness honouring of the ceremony and appreciating his support.
